Help us secure camera enforcement before a serious accident occurs.
Whitminster Parish Council is calling on all residents to support a crucial safety initiative at the junction of Grove Lane and the A38.
The Problem: Dangerous Illegal Manoeuvres
The junction exiting Grove Lane onto the A38 is strictly Left Turn Only. This restriction was put in place to protect motorists on the high-speed A38 and those exiting the village.
Despite the installation of a physical traffic island to prevent right turns and straight-through movements into School Lane, we are seeing a frequent and dangerous trend:
-
Drivers are intentionally driving the “wrong way” around the traffic island to turn right.
-
Drivers are performing high-risk “S-curves” to travel straight across the A38 into School Lane.
These manoeuvres are illegal, unpredictable, and a major safety risk. We believe it is only a matter of time before these actions cause a serious, avoidable collision.
The Solution: ANPR Enforcement
Gloucestershire County Council is currently consulting on the installation of Moving Traffic Enforcement Cameras (ANPR) at several sites. These cameras would automatically detect and fine drivers who ignore the “Left Turn Only” signage, providing a 24/7 deterrent that physical islands alone have failed to provide.
How to Have Your Say (Action Required by 1st March)
The Parish Council cannot secure this enforcement alone; we need the community to demonstrate “broad support” for this specific site to the County Council.
Please follow these steps to complete the survey:
-
Visit the Consultation Hub: Click here to open the Gloucestershire CC Survey
-
Locate Our Site: Scroll down to the list of proposed locations. Whitminster (Grove Lane/A38) is Site No. 17.
-
Submit Your Feedback: When prompted for comments, please be as specific as possible.
-
Tip: Instead of just saying you support it, explain why. Mention that you have seen dangerous maneuvers, that you fear for the safety of pedestrians and local drivers, and that enforcement is needed now to prevent a serious accident.
-
Deadline: All comments must be submitted by Sunday, 1st March 2026.
Why your voice matters
In the past, road improvements at this junction have been limited to “physical measures” (like the island extension). The County Council needs to know that the community feels these measures are insufficient and that automated enforcement is the only way to ensure the safety of our roads.
Thank you for helping make Whitminster safer.
