Community and Sports Clubs Facilities Survey 2023 – Summary of Results

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2023 surveys. We received 105 responses from residents within a 2-mile radius of Whitminster Village Hall, encompassing both online submissions and paper questionnaires. Additionally, we gathered valuable feedback from members and supporters of Whitminster Cricket Club and Cotswold Rangers Football Club. Your insights are instrumental in guiding the future development of our village facilities.

Key Findings from the Community Survey

  • Village Hall Usage: Residents appreciate the Village Hall but noted challenges such as booking difficulties, perceived high hire costs, and a desire for more diverse activities catering to all age groups.
  • Playing Field Engagement: The Playing Field is well-used for sports and casual recreation. However, some residents were unaware of available activities, indicating a need for improved communication about events and facilities.
  • Facility Improvements: There is strong support for making the Village Hall and Pavilion more energy-efficient and future-proofed. Suggestions included better heating, insulation, and the use of renewable energy sources.
  • Community Activities: Residents expressed interest in a wider range of community events and activities, such as fitness classes, children’s events, and social gatherings, to enhance community engagement.

Key Findings from the Sports Clubs Survey

  • Importance of the Pavilion: The Pavilion is deemed crucial for the continued operation of Whitminster Cricket Club and Cotswold Rangers Football Club. Its absence could jeopardize the future of these clubs.
  • Desired Features in a New Pavilion: Respondents expressed interest in a multifunctional space that includes:
    • Private event hire options
    • A bar area for social events and gatherings
    • Facilities for children’s clubs (e.g., Scouts, Guides)
    • Spaces for community meetings and events
    • Viewing areas for sports matches and national/international sporting events
  • Design Preferences: Suggestions included a modern, eco-friendly building with clean lines, similar to Stroud Cricket Club, avoiding outdated color schemes.
