Fight for Whitminster – respond to the Environmental Screening Opinions!
Whitminster’s rural character is at risk. Developers are trying to push through large housing developments without a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). If this happens, the true damage to our village won’t be properly assessed. We must take action to stop this!
Why We Must Object
These proposals threaten our village in multiple ways:
- Wildlife at Risk: The land is home to protected species such as bats, birds of prey, and amphibians, being displaced by development and light pollution. Without an EIA, developers may destroy vital habitats.
- Loss of Open Green Spaces: Many residents use these fields for walking and recreation. We must protect them!
- Flooding and Drainage Issues: The land is prone to flooding, and new developments could make it worse.
- Heritage Damage: These developments sit close to listed buildings and conservation areas.
- Increased Light Pollution: Unnecessary lighting will destroy Whitminster’s dark skies, adjacent to existing unlit lanes and fields.
- Increased traffic: putting our children at risk and destroying the village character
How to Object
It is critical that your responses requiring an Environmental Impact Assessment are written in your own words. Copy-pasting may result in responses being ignored. Make sure you start by stating you are objecting to the development!
To submit your environmental concerns, click the links below:
- Land East of School Lane: Submit your objection HERE or via email direct to the planners at planning@stroud.gov.uk
- Land North of Hyde Lane: Submit your objection HERE or via email direct to the planners at planning@stroud.gov.uk
What to Include in Your Objection
Use your own words, but consider mentioning the following:
- The land is home to protected species and important wildlife.
- It is an important recreational space used by the community.
- The area has serious flooding concerns.
- The development will negatively impact historic buildings and village character.
- Increased lighting will contribute to pollution and harm biodiversity.
Remember this is not the planning application (yet), this is to require the developers to carry out a full environmental assessment of the development
Whitminster is OUR village, and we must stand together to protect it. Submit your objections today and fight against speculative development!
